The Chinese Food Market uses Red Rice for numerous things. They commonly use it as a food dye. They also sell it as dried grains, powders and paste. Did you know that they used it for Chinese herbal medicine? I will tell you why they do that, and what side effects you may experience.

First the Chinese food market red rice is a form of yeast rice. Which gets the name from purple fermented rice, which gets its color from the mold it grows in. It then is sold in all the Chinese food market as whole dried grain, pasteurized wet aggregate, and a ground powder. Also, it was used as a food dye, until chemical coloring came along.

When they get the crop of rice it takes a long soak in water until the rice is completely saturated. Then basically there is two ways the raw rice can be cooked. You can either steam in for sterilization, so that it can be used in cooking or you can also immediately inoculate it. They way you inoculate it is mixing M purpureus spores or some of the powdered red yeast rice. They then contain it an incubation environment that pretty much stays around room temperature, anywhere from three to six days. After this incubation is over it should turn bright red on the inside and a red purple on the outside rice. They then can sell it as a dried grain, or even pasteurize it to sell as a wet paste, as well as a fine powder. Too this day, they are the largest maker of Red rice.

As well as being a food, they use it in Chinese herbal medicine. It dates as far back as 800 A.D. It helps remove blood blockage, more commonly known as blood clots, as well as your digestive system. They also now use it to help lower cholesterol. The Chinese herbal medicine is not based on theory but a school of thought. And now the FDA here in the USA, have introduced it into our cholesterol lowering medications, it is also believed that it may aid many other things which are yet unknown to us. It is a supplement here in the USA.

There are many side effects of taking the Chinese food market red rice, but many of them match those we already face with any supplement or drug we take. As well as a few we don’t commonly see. The most common side effects are; headache, indigestion, bloating and gas, dizziness, heartburn, muscle pain, and joint pain they still don’t know exactly why there are these side effects. The side effects that are not so common are; Liver inflammation, Damage to peripheral nerves, Myopathy, as well as Rhabdomyolysis. What Rhabdomyolysis is, is the breaking down of muscle tissue which can lead to liver failure, but it is very rare to have this side effect. There is no info on the long term effect of red yeast rice in medicine.

I have eaten some weird and wonderful dishes around the world but some of the more interesting concoctions have been served up to me in China.
A particularly interesting delicacy I ate some years ago consisted of Cow’s bronchial tubes - the airways between the cow’s lungs and windpipe (gruesome!) in a light white wine sauce.
The appearance of a plate full of macaroni, the taste of nothing but the white wine sauce and the consistency of over-cooked calamari, you could describe this dish as the original Chinese chew recipe!
Another time I was served with a plate of vermicelli with 20 or so delicately arranged deep-fried crispy scorpion complete with sting!
The trick to eating this particular delicacy was to convince myself it was nothing more than a prawn and all I had to do was to pick it up with my chopsticks and slip it into my mouth.
Actually once I had said to myself “it’s a prawn, it’s a prawn” 20 times this was not such an ordeal and basically the texture was, well, just crisp! and the only taste was of the oil it had been fried in, not so much of a Chinese chew, more of a Chinese crisp!
But Cow’s bronchial tubes and deep fried crispy scorpion are not the most gruesome dish I am aware of.
I say aware of rather than ate because even me with my cast iron constitution couldn’t stomach what I am about to describe to you. Anyway I am not sure if it’s just a popular folklore or if people really did this. I am sure it must be illegal now, if its not it should be!
Legend has it that, particularly in the southern parts of China, people had a specially designed ritualistic table with a hole in the centre, just big enough to take the upper part of a Monkey’s head.
Apparently the ritual consisted of capturing a live Monkey and securing it with it’s head wedged up in to hole in the centre of the table. The next step in the ritual was to trepanne the top of the live monkeys’ skull off and pour boiling water into the Monkey’s brain.
People sitting around the table would then proceed to eat the braised Monkey brain with chopsticks directly out of the Monkey’s skull.
I did warn you it was gruesome – it can’t possibly be true, can it?
Fortunately the dishes that we are more familiar with are not quite so outlandish and use much more traditional ingredients. There are many easy Chinese recipes on the Chinese food menu, just as well really because I don’t know about you but I think I must be part Chinese as I love the food and all about the place.

Indo Munch Restaurant is famous for dumpling and Spring roll. There are varieties in vegetarian, Non vegetarian, Shrimp. It’s very tasty. The Indo Munch menu offers appetizers, soups, rice bowls, rice platters, fried rice and many dishes. Please come and taste the different tastiest food

Chinese dumpling which consists of minced meat and chopped vegetables wrapped into a piece of dough. Popular meat fillings include ground chicken, ground lamb, shrimp, and even fish. Popular mixings are pork with Chinese cabbage, lamb with spring onion, leeks with eggs, etc. American Chopsuey is a traditional dish for Chinese New Year’s Eve. Family members would get together to make dumplings.

Dumplings come in orders of 12 or 30. The larger size is favored by the locals who take the house made dumplings home cook. It was clear that those who came and went and happily chatted are regulars.

This most likely accounts for the presence of a few Indian style dishes on the menu, such as Fried Rice. Ours was fresh and delightful and had less chili and garlic than the more familiar versions. We also had scallion pancake which was perfectly crisp on the outside, chewy with generous scallions on the inside.

A restaurant has downplayed some flavors and omitted some dishes, all to suit Westerners’ tastes. But you will find that the rendering of everything, even the beloved spring rolls, is true to tradition.

A vermicelli bowl and a rice platter are brought to the table of waiting diners at the Indo Munch Restaurant in NewYork. A personal favorite and highly recommended, fresh spring rolls are made from a mixture of meat and fish, or vegetarian-style with a variety of vegetables wrapped in rice paper and served with peanut dipping sauce. Please order on online www.indomunch.com.

Chinese cooking night is a wonderful tradition that my family has created over the years and one that we have all come to love! On this special night once a month, my aunts, grandmas, parents and even my two brothers and their families clear their hectic schedules and gather around the family kitchen to whip up a savory and delicious meal straight from the Orient. Why Chinese food, you ask? Of all the different cuisines we have tried throughout the years, Chinese recipes are easy to follow, the food is delicious and Chinese cooking sauces have become our favorite. Their adaptability and variety of flavorful spices is loved by the whole family.

One thing we learned very early on is that Chinese food and Chinese cooking are greatly complimented by the key ingredients of the sauces. You can see this very easily in the American Chinese food cooking trends. It is mainly a mixture of vegetables enhanced with Chinese sauces. These cooking sauces are used as garnishes and in preparing many types of delicious authentic recipes. Most of our favorite Chinese dishes, like noodles and fried rice are made with a variety of spices and sauces making them very popular and savory meals.

In America, Chinese food has been used in ways that are non traditional and has taken on some of its own new traditions. Their sauces have become famous as dipping sauces and cooking sauces that are mainly used for different types of meat dishes like pork or chicken. Sweet and sour sauce was originally used as a simple sauce for fish dishes in different parts of the world but was used to create American-Chinese dishes such as sweet and sour chicken when it was introduced in America. Along with sweet and sour sauce, some other types of sauces used in America to enhance flavor in popular Chinese foods such as noodles, fried rice and other Chinese dishes are chili oil, oyster sauce and garlic sauce.

Chinese cooking with its tasty dipping sauces is also a fun way to liven up a meal and something that my children love! Try serving the dipping sauces in a small bowl along with the meal to accompany Chinese appetizers like pot stickers, spring rolls and egg rolls. Let the kids have their own bowl to dip and watch their faces light up. One of the main reasons my family loves Chinese cuisine is that there are so many different types of flavors that can be easily incorporated into everyday meals. Some of the most famous are chili oil, sweet and sour sauce, hot mustard and garlic sauce. Chili oil is made from chili peppers and is normally used in stir-fry and to enhance the flavor of other dishes such as noodles. Another favorite and one that has been used for many centuries in China is sweet and sour sauce. Its main ingredients of sugar and wedding vinegar make it a very popular choice and one that adds savory flavor to Chinese dishes when combined with tomato sauce. Garlic sauce and hot mustard sauce are great sauces that work well with a variety of Chinese appetizers. Any of these sauces are easy to make and will give your meal that special oriental flavor your family will love!

Because Chinese cooking sauces are an easy way add great flavor to Chinese meals and are so adaptable, they have become very popular in China and around the world…making Chinese food a truly international cuisine. It is easy to experiment with all the many sauces and spices Chinese food has to offer and even come up with your own favorite combinations! From sweet and sour sauce to garlic and hot mustard, Chinese cuisine and its many sauces have proven to be an all time favorite that my family loves. Try it out on your family and I’m sure that they too will look forward to your special night of Chinese cooking.

Fried rice is one of those lovely comforting foods that everyone in the world seems to like. No one is intimidated by fried rice. Somehow all these rogue ingredients have crept into restaurant versions over the years, such as corn, peas, ham and the like. I find the trick with fried rice is to keep it really simple and traditional – just some really fresh and fluffy eggs, onion, bacon or Chinese sausage, ginger and some spring onions.

Vegetable fried rice is a light-weight alternative to heavy food. Vegetable Fried Rice is what all of you must have cooked and eaten at home or in restaurants. It’s a really simple dish to make, and healthy too because of all the veggies that it has. I describe my recipe for making Vegetable Fried Rice which goes extremely well with my Vegetable Fried rice. Here is the recipe for my version of Chinese style Vegetable Fried Rice. Vegetable Fried Rice is Very easy and very tasty too. It is best eaten with tomato ketchup or a hot and sweet sauce.

This fried rice dish combines the nutty flavor of fried rice with the fresh taste of bell peppers, baby peas, and other vegetables. This dish is actually a lot simpler than most of us perceive it to be. Fried rice is cooked on a high flame, and the trick is to cut the vegetables small, so that they do not remain raw inside. It requires vigorous stirring though. Fried Rice or Vegetable Fried Rice is a popular north Indian dish. Its main ingredients are rice and vegetables like carrot, beans and Capsicum .It is quite a healthy dish. It is widely preferred by youngsters in the modern world and used to eat in all age of peoples.

Neatly Fried rice Natural tastes for food develop early. If kids eat real food and develop a taste for fruits, vegetables and other delicious flavors from Nature, they won’t depend on the stronger and enhanced flavor of processed food. Our Indomunch restaurant newly opened in Newyork city, the restaurant items will prepared in very neatly, and with a decent dinner, our guests have never complained, but we could never pull off that dream dinner, with all the courses perfectly synchronized. Please purchase online Fried rice in the website www.indomunch.com in Newyork city.

A recent AP newswire story reported the consumer group, Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), has found that the typical Chinese restaurant menu is full of bad nutritional properties.

For example, a plate of General Tsao’s chicken is loaded with about 40 percent more sodium, and more than half the calories, of an average adult’s daily needs. The battered, fried chicken dish with vegetables tallies out to 1,300 calories, 3,200 milligrams of sodium and 11 grams of saturated fat. That’s before the rice, which is 200 calories a cup. And, if you order the egg rolls, you add on 200 calories and 400 milligrams of sodium.

- Across the board, American restaurants need to cut back on calories and salt, and, in the meantime, people should think of each meal as not one, but two, and bring home half for tomorrow, said Center for Science in the Public Interest’s nutrition director, Bonnie Liebman.

According to government guidelines, the average adult only needs approximately 2,000 calories a day and 2,300 milligrams of salt, which equals one teaspoon.

The National Restaurant Association reported that restaurants in Texas and throughout the country were already making efforts to offer customers healthier choices. In particular, Chinese restaurants typically offer plenty of options for customers looking to steer clear of fried foods and heavy sauces.

But the CSPI’s study reports that, in some ways, Italian and Mexican restaurants can be worse for your health, because their food is higher in saturated fat, which can increase the risk of heart disease.

And while Chinese restaurant food can be bad for your waistline and blood pressure - sodium contributes to hypertension - it does offer vegetable-rich dishes and the kind of fat that’s not bad for the heart. But Chinese cooked veggies aren’t off the hook. A plate of stir-fried greens has 900 calories and 2,200 milligrams of sodium. And eggplant in garlic sauce has 1,000 calories and 2,000 milligrams of sodium.

Unfortunately, if you think you’re saving calories by just eating appetizers, think again. A plate of six steamed pork dumplings has 500 calories, and there’s only a difference of ten calories per dumpling between steamed and pan-fried.

The CSPI says there is no safe harbor from sodium on the Chinese restaurant menu, but it offers several tips for making a meal healthier:

- Ask for dishes featuring vegetables, instead of meat or noodles. Ask for extra broccoli, snow peas or other veggies.
- Steer clear of deep-fried meat, seafood or tofu. Order it stir-fried or braised.
- Hold the sauce, and eat with a fork or chopsticks to leave more sauce behind.
- Avoid salt, so stay away from the duck sauce, hot mustard, hoisin sauce and soy sauce.
- Share your meal or ask for a doggie bag.
- Order brown rice rather than white rice.

Almost everyone likes Chinese food. But, like everything else in life, moderation is important. If you’re a healthy, young individual who lives in Dallas, Houston or anywhere else in Texas and you love Chinese food, eating a lot of it may not seem like it will affect your health now, but it certainly could in the long run. And as you’ll discover, what affects your health also will eventually affect your bank account.

Chinese food holds a popular place among the entire population of the world. You can find a Chinese restaurant in every major city and in many smaller areas of the world as well. Why is Chinese food so popular? Is Chinese food healthy? What is the history of Chinese food?

The History of Chinese Food
The history of Chinese food1 is an interesting one. Unlike many cultures the Chinese believe that the preparation of food is an art and not simply a craft. The art of cooking Chinese food can include dishes and food preparation techniques which are difficult to develop and may require the expertise of a chef with lots of experience. One such technique is noodle pulling (scroll down to the bottom of the page to learn more about this technique). Noodle pulling requires skill and lots of practice and results in a delicious noodle dish. This article will refer to noodle pulling later on, but for now, let’s go back to the history of Chinese food.

Chinese food and the way it is prepared is very much influenced by the two major philosophies, which influence the entire Chinese culture. These dominant philosophies are Confucianism and Taoism. Both have these philosophies have influenced the way that the Chinese people cook and the way that they enjoy their food.

Confucianism and Chinese Cuisine
Confucius was the man behind the Confucianism beliefs. Among many other standards Confucius established standards for proper table etiquette and for the appearance and taste of Chinese food. One of the standards set by Confucius (you might have noticed this at an authentic Chinese restaurant) is that food must be cut into small bite size pieces before serving the dish. This is a custom that is definitely unique to the Chinese culture.

Knives at the dinner table are also considered to be a sign of very poor taste by those who embrace Confucianism beliefs. The standards of quality and taste that Confucius recommended required the perfect blend of ingredients, herbs and condiments–a blend which would result in the perfect combination of flavor. Confucius also emphasized the importance of the texture and color of a dish, and taught that food must be prepared and eaten with harmony. Interestingly enough, Confucius was also of the opinion that an excellent cook must first make an excellent matchmaker.

Taoism and Chinese Cuisine
Those who follow the Taoism beliefs focus on the health benefits of particular foods vs. the presentation of the same. Taoists search for foods that will increase their health and longevity. They search for foods that have healing powers. Many times these benefits were often referred to as ‘life giving powers’. For instance, the Chinese found that ginger, which can be considered to be a garnish or a condiment was found to be a remedy for upset stomachs or a remedy for colds.

Is Chinese Food Healthy?
Chinese food, when authentic is probably the healthiest food in the world. Some restaurants, which are not authentic, prepare their menu with highly saturated fats or with meats that contain unhealthy amounts of animal fat. These Chinese restaurants are not recommended and they are both neither authentic nor healthy.

Good Chinese food however, is prepared and cooked with poly-unsaturated oils. Authentic Chinese food does not require the use of milk-fat ingredients such as cream, butter or cheese. Meat is used, but not in abundance, which makes it easy for those who love authentic Chinese food to avoid high levels of animal fat. Many believe that authentic Chinese food is really the ideal diet.

Chinese Restaurants in Every Part of the Nation
Whether it is in a Tennessee Chinese Restaurant to a New York Chinese restaurant you are going to find culinary dishes that are both healthy and delicious. Savor the flavor with Chinese food!
